Amazon said on June 25 it will invest an additional $13 billion in India by 2030 to expand AI and cloud infrastructure, raising its planned investment in the country to $48 billion by 2030 from a previously announced $35 billion.

Reuters reported that Chief Executive Andy Jassy said in a post on X that Amazon plans to invest $48 billion in India over the next five years, including more than $21 billion for AI and cloud infrastructure, and linked the announcement to his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Amazon said the new spending will expand AWS data center capacity in the Mumbai and Hyderabad regions and support access to custom AI chips, managed AI services, cloud technologies, and developer tools for startups, enterprises, and government organizations.

The company also said its broader India plans continue to include investment in ecommerce and delivery infrastructure and workforce programs.
