CME Group leadership transition

CME Group said Terry Duffy will step down as chief executive officer and transition to executive chairman on March 1, 2027, with President and Chief Financial Officer Lynne Fitzpatrick set to become CEO.

The company said its board approved the leadership transition on June 16, 2026. An SEC filing said the change will take effect on the later of March 1, 2027, and the filing date of CME Group’s 2026 Form 10-K.

CME also said it will begin a search for a successor to Fitzpatrick as chief financial officer. The exchange operator said it handled average daily volume of 28.1 million contracts last year and has a market capitalization of more than $95 billion.

In its announcement, CME said Duffy’s tenure included the company’s shift from floor-based trading to electronic trading and merger transactions involving CBOT and later NYMEX.
