Porsche is considering moving Cayenne production from Bratislava to Leipzig, including combustion-engine, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported. Porsche did not comment directly on the reported plan, but said talks with employee representatives are under way, while the group works council confirmed discussions and said key issues remain unresolved.
According to the report, the proposal is tied to longer-term production planning for the Leipzig plant and includes discussions on labor costs, with lower wage levels in Slovakia cited as a factor in the economics of any transfer.
Cayenne production was fully moved to Bratislava in 2017 after an earlier period in which the model was assembled in Leipzig, and Porsche said in 2023 that the future all-electric Cayenne would also be built at Volkswagen Slovakia’s multi-brand plant in Bratislava.
Porsche’s 2025 annual report shows Leipzig produced 101,910 vehicles, consisting of the Macan and Panamera, while 76,694 Cayennes were produced at other sites, explicitly including Bratislava and Malaysia. Porsche has also announced plans to cut 200 jobs at Leipzig by the end of August 2026 through voluntary departures, citing weaker sales and cost measures.
