Critical minerals supply chains

France is seeking G7 support for a statement on critical minerals aimed at keeping China’s share of rare earth supplies below 60% and reducing dependence on a single source.

The proposal focuses on diversifying supply chains and strengthening critical mineral value chains through measures covering industry, financing, trade, traceability, transparency, storage and recycling.

The effort also includes steps intended to protect investors from supply-related countermeasures and low-priced exports. Rare earths and other critical minerals are used across manufacturing and technology supply chains, making availability and sourcing a focus for governments and markets.
