International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Karim Khan has been suspended from his duties after the court’s governing body referred him for disciplinary proceedings following an investigation into allegations of sexual harassment or other misconduct involving a female aide, according to statements reported on June 8.
The ICC’s governing body said the matter has been sent to the Assembly of States Parties, which oversees the court, and that member states will hold a special session to vote on whether Khan can remain in office.
A diplomatic source briefed on the decision told Reuters that the Bureau concluded Khan had committed serious misconduct after an investigation that lasted about 18 months. Khan, a British barrister, has denied wrongdoing, and separate reports said he had stepped aside last month during the probe.
