India has restricted access to Telegram nationwide until June 22 and directed the platform to disable message editing for users in India until June 30, according to multiple media reports, ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., including formalities, as stated in a notice from the National Testing Agency.
Reports said the action was taken after Telegram groups circulated claims of access to question papers, answer keys, and other exam material. Some channel administrators were also alleged to have edited older messages after examinations had ended to insert actual question papers while keeping the original timestamps, creating false records suggesting papers had been available before the exam.
The reported measures were aimed at limiting the spread of false paper-leak claims and exam-related fraud during the examination period.
