Chinese President Xi Jinping told Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing to move forward with key bilateral infrastructure projects and ensure their security, according to Chinese state media reports on June 16, 2026.
Xi said China treats relations with Myanmar as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and identified the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor as a central project in bilateral Belt and Road cooperation. Chinese state media said the two sides should steadily advance construction linked to the corridor.
Xi also said China supports parties in Myanmar pursuing peace and reconciliation through dialogue and seeking lasting stability in northern Myanmar.
During the engagement, the two sides signed 18 memorandums of cooperation covering cross-border transportation in the Greater Mekong subregion, free trade, disaster assistance, health and media.
