April 1, 2026: BoE presses on with gilt repo reforms to address hedge fund leverage, eyes early 2027 update

After publishing feedback on its 2025 discussion paper, the Bank said it will continue work through 2026 on broader central clearing and minimum haircuts in non-centrally cleared gilt repo, with an update due in early 2027. Bank data showed hedge fund net gilt repo borrowing reached £61 billion in March 2025 and was concentrated among a few funds.

UK Consumer Inflation Remains at 2.8% in May as Core and Services Measures Edge Higher

UK consumer price inflation was unchanged at 2.8% year on year in May, while CPIH held at 3.0%, according to official data. Both CPI and CPIH rose 0.2% on the month. Transport added the most upward pressure, while food and non-alcoholic beverages provided the largest offset.
