The International Labour Organization has adopted its first global convention setting labor standards for gig and platform-based work.
The agreement establishes binding standards for platform workers and provides that protections apply regardless of employment classification. It also requires platforms to disclose how automated systems affect workers.
According to the reported details, the convention is the first international agreement of its kind for gig work and is intended to extend labor protections to hundreds of millions of people worldwide. The convention will take effect in member states 12 months after they ratify it.
