ILO adopts first global labor standards for platform-based work
The International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted Convention No. 193 in June 2026, establishing the first binding global labor standards for platform-based work. The convention introduces protections for gig workers regardless of employment classification and includes provisions on transparency and oversight of algorithmic management systems. It will enter into force in ratifying member states 12 months after formal ratification.
